I started Deathbomb Arc in 1998 so I could put out a 12" ep by Turbine. I was living around the Bay Area, obsessed with a band called Rrope, and totaly baffled why this Rrope related project wasn't getting offers to put out their music. Although other releases came out around then (mostly of one of my own projects, Rose For Bohdan), I was not nearly stable enough as a person to be putting out records. Jump to the year 2000. Again I find myself in love with a band that no one is putting out... Partnerships. I re-open the Deathbomb Arc casket and out comes some more releases, including Gang Wizard's debut on CD. This time around, being a little more together and stumbling upon some minor recognition, I give a shot at putting some substantial money behind two releases. The Books on Tape debut and the No Limit Tribute comp. Things are looking up for the label, but that money is far from made back. Now driven to do the label, but without cash, I focus on local music. I start helping out more and more at the Smell and begin a festival series called Neon Hates You designed to bring large audiences to strange, genre breaking/experimental punk bands. The year is 2002. Over the next 3 years the Smell, Neon Hates You, and this label all see their ups and downs, but ultimately grow and provide insane amounts of fun and love for everyone involved. More and more bands get added to the label like Child Pornography, Yuma Nora, BARR, Foot Village, Monster Dudes, Captain Ahab, etc!!!! The scope of the label grows in many directions, from putting out much higher profile bands (Friends Forever, Xiu Xiu, Thurston Moore, D Yellow Swans, Tussle) to doing even tinier releases on CDr and a subscription based cassette club. The festival series spawns a related distro and in 2005 the Deathbomb Arc Potluck series is started, where people trade food for music, rather than money. The label begins to seem more like a world. With this comes new problems, but the excitement of being nearly limitless in what type of projects can be undertaken is worth it. My name is Brian Miller. Lots of people
help out with the label, including Max Burke (currently holding it down in EU),
Eva Aguila (in charge of the tape club), and of course all the bands. I am
spending the next 6 months to a year traveling around the US and living out of
my van. Thanks to wireless laptops, a loft in my car, and your patience, I am
still able to run Deathbomb Arc from the road. Orders may take slightly longer
to process at the moment though. Please feel free to email me about anything.
The more specific you are, the better job I can do responding. It remains the
goal of Deathbomb Arc to put out genre-breaking experimental punk bands both
known, and more importantly, unknown. If you don't recognize a band name in the
catalgue, please take the risk and check it out! They are as good as the bands
you recognize! |
