Cassette Gods
Issue #3
Most of the
writers for Cassette Gods and myself are more than cassette fans. We are also
people that make music that gets put on cassettes. We are people that run
cassette labels. Most likely, if you are reading this, you are not just a
"cassette fan" as well. Is there even really such a thing any more? I bet YOU
put out a tape this year! And if you didn't, we're all the type of people here
that would encourage you to do it. So ultimately, if we had it our way, truly
everyone reading this would just be a part of the thing they are reading about.
So obviously I'm not concerned about preaching to the choir or anything. But the
whole incestuous phenomenon does really excite me. What to most is a criticism,
that most underground music trends are written about from within, is to me a
part of what keeps it all so magical. So while propaganda is inevitable, I like
to think that there are major plus sides to having people write about the things
they love. We're here to share our enthusiasm. We're here to be constructive
about our own scene (Has anyone noticed the negative reviews on our blog yet?
Trust me, those words don't come easily out of these writers. They have too much
love for cassettes to just be dicks.) Or maybe this just is straight up
propaganda. I would definitely have a hard time calling it journalism. So its
some type of healthy propaganda. We don't run inside jobs, the editor (me)
doesn't keep any of promos send in, and we are working towards a new
understanding of the word honesty. But still, we are here to promote the thing
that we love in both action and words. Hopefully our webzine makes you feel that
enthusiasm as well. If not, that is our true failing. So feel free to let us
know. We'd love your feedback.. and who knows, it may even influence us!
